This week (May 4 through May 8, 2015) is the 52nd ever National Small Business Week, which celebrates America’s entrepreneurs and small business owners. Each year since 1963, the U.S. Small Business Administration has recognized and honored our country’s small-business entrepreneurs by awarding a National Small Business Person of the Year and hosting special events to celebrate and help small businesses throughout the U.S.

As President Obama declared in a statement:

“America’s small businesses are the backbone of our economy, employing half of our country’s private sector workforce and creating nearly two out of every three new jobs in our country. Representing the quintessential American ideals of hard work and ingenuity, small businesses — from startups to mom-and-pop shops — are crucial to our national prosperity and economic security. During National Small Business Week, we recommit to advancing these vital enterprises, and we celebrate their contributions to our collective American story.”

So what’s going on in Houston for National Small Business Week? Well, for starters, the Microsoft Store at the Galleria is hosting free workshops and product demonstrations for local small-business owners all week long (Monday, May 4 thru Friday, May 8).

How Factoring Works for a Small Hot Shot Trucking Company

Hot shot hauling is one of the fastest ways to put a truck to work, but it comes with a built-in cash flow trap: you pay for fuel, insurance, and your truck note in real time, while brokers and shippers pay you on their schedule. Invoice factoring closes that gap. Here is exactly how the process works for a small hot shot operation.
